We used Kim’s games in the Army to develop our memory for pertinent details and our situational awareness. In our sniper section, one teammate set up random items across a field and road and we had a limited amount of time to observe the area through our rifle or spotting scopes before having to answer what out-of-place items we noted. This was an important training tool for us and is directly applicable to law enforcement.
If you only get one short glance at a license plate you need to maximize your opportunity to retain as much information about it as possible. Same goes for a brief look at a person of interest or suspect, you need to take as much in as possible. Practice this with flash recognition drills.
